MUSEUM OF CHILDREN

Here I am in the Museum of Children in San Antonio. In the picture there are 3 friends from Guatemala, Daniel, Angel and Jimy; a friend from Nicaragua, Maritza; and 3 friends from Russia. We went there to do some volunteer work. The English teachers were in charge of the activity, and we got organized in small groups. I worked with Sama, the first one from left to right and Fidelina (absent). We helped kids in a station where they played with bubbles.

It was nice to be there.

LIBRARY AND MUSEUM

Here I am near the main public library in San Antonio. With my friends, I sometimes go to read or to chat online or just to borrow some books or movies.

I try to use a more relaxed look for these occassions, since we use to go there on Saturdays.

To be at the library is good because the conditions are comfortable and it is a good source of knowledge, since there is a lot to read.

Sometimes one can get crazy just by looking at all those books; I like the illustrations of the stories.

This is my friend Nely in the Museum of Art of San Antonio, where the English teachers took us to have some practice. In places like these we normally sightsee but then we have to look for information and report it next class. Good strategy to make us put into practice the English language.

WORKSHOP FROM THEORY TO PRACTICE

Here I am developing my lesson plan using the structure Dr. Herbert taught. This includes:

• 1. Theme
• 2. Objectives
• 3. Grade

4. Connect.

Here you include an activity to connect the students to the topic, considering their previous knowledge or experiences. It is like a warm-up.

5. Learning actively.

In this step, you use reading as a strategie. You choose a piece of reading or a book that contains the topic and have all the students get involved through choral reading, or pair reading; also, at the time you are reading they can be encouraged to imitate sound or gestures, or attitudes of the characters. Furthermore, inference or predicting questions are done to get them into the reading.

What is important to mention is that for thi step, there are 3 moments: before reading, during reading, and after reading.

6. Summarize:

In this step the teacher evaluates if the objective has been achieved. It can be done by using different strategies like having the students create poems, chants, songs, dramas, word maps, etc, so that they can have options and strenghth the different multiple intelligences.

7. Reflect:

In this step you ask the students what they liked the most an why. Through this they are encouraged to express what they feel and think.

Here I am in Margarita Huantes Center, where people can go to take Computer courses for free, as well as English classes.

Ms. Casanova, my computer instructor, gave me the chance to enroll in the institute.
















Here I am in front of the administration building of Harlandale District, where we had a lunch with the authorities of that District. CASS teachers will go to these schools to put into practice the methodologies that are being learned at Palo Alto College.
